Europe’s largest lake system — summer sauna culture, brown bear watching in the eastern forests, and a slower kind of Finland.
Lake Saimaa is the fourth-largest lake in Europe and the centre of a system so broken up by islands and channels that the shoreline runs to thousands of kilometres. This is where Finns spend their own summers, and it is the strongest counterweight we have to the winter Lapland programme.
Further east, the taiga forests along the Russian border hold Europe’s densest brown bear population, watched from purpose-built hides between May and August. Savonlinna adds a genuine cultural anchor with its opera festival staged inside a fifteenth-century castle.

Historic manors, private lakeside villas and small design properties — with a sauna on the water in almost every case.

Overnight brown bear hides in the eastern forests, kayaking between islands, and Saimaa ringed seal watching.

Wild mushrooms, lake fish and berries — a short, strongly seasonal larder that local kitchens use well.

Two to four hours by road or rail from Helsinki, or a short domestic flight to Savonlinna or Kuopio.

The bear-watching season opens and the light stretches towards midnight. Water still cold, forests at their freshest.
Warm enough to swim, the sauna and lake season at its peak, and the Savonlinna Opera Festival in July.
Autumn colour across the forests, mushroom season, and the quietest weeks with properties still open.

A design capital on the Baltic — serious architecture, a sauna culture that never left, and an archipelago that starts at the harbour steps.

The Arctic heart of our operation — aurora nights, husky trails, reindeer herding country and the properties we know best.

The far north of Finland — Sámi heartland, the great lake of Inari, and the darkest, clearest aurora skies we work with.
