Brown bears watched from a professional hide on the edge of the eastern taiga — dusk to dawn, in silence, on the bears' terms.
Finland's brown bears live in the taiga forest along the eastern border, in the Kainuu region around Kuhmo and Suomussalmi. Watching happens from purpose-built hides: clients settle in before evening, stay quiet, and watch through the pale northern night as the forest starts to move.
The season runs from spring to late summer. Early season brings bears fresh from hibernation; early summer brings females with cubs; late July and August bring berry season and long feeding evenings.
These are wild animals and sightings are never guaranteed — we say that plainly. But the established hides have high success rates across the season, the guides read the forest well, and an overnight session covers both dusk and dawn, when the taiga is most alive.
No guarantees with wild animals — ever. We plan two nights when a sighting genuinely matters to the client, and we brief expectations before departure.
Hides range from simple photography hides to insulated cabins with bunks and a dry toilet. We match the hide to the client and are clear about facilities in advance.
Bears have exceptional noses and hearing. The guides brief scent, silence and movement — clients who follow the brief see more.
