Two reasons to use one

Helicopters do two jobs here. They land where there is no road, runway or harbour: a glacier snout, a ridge, a village of forty people. And they cover a lot of ground fast, so a client sees the shape of a place in twenty minutes.

In Greenland helicopters are part of the public transport network, and the scheduled links are often the best option. In Norway, Iceland and Finland they are chartered and priced by the hour. Plan them around the weather, not the timetable.

Transfers to remote lodges and camps

The last leg in, where the alternative is a long boat crossing or a full day of driving.

Flightseeing, with or without a landing

Ice caps, calving glacier fronts, mountain ridges. Landing makes a much bigger trip of it, and landing is the part that needs permission.

Ski and mountain access

A lift to the start of a ski tour or a summit day. Guiding, avalanche assessment and permits are booked separately, and the guide leads the day, not the pilot.

Limits we state up front

You cannot land everywhere. National parks and protected areas restrict or ban it, permission takes weeks, and it is sometimes refused.
Pilots work to strict cloud and visibility limits. Flights get cancelled or turned back more often than clients expect.
Weight limits are strict. The more fuel, luggage and altitude involved, the fewer passengers fit.
Reindeer husbandry districts and noise-sensitive areas carry seasonal restrictions on low flying and landings.
