A genuine encounter with the reindeer-herding Sámi of northern Scandinavia — not a performance, but a guided visit to a working family, their land and their way of life.
The Sámi are the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia — reindeer herders whose seasonal migrations across Lapland and Finnmark have continued for thousands of years. Time with a Sámi family is one of the most memorable things we build into a northern itinerary.
We work with a small number of Sámi families who welcome guests genuinely, share their knowledge honestly and are respected within their own communities. This is not a staged show. The conversation is real, the setting is working land and the experience stays with you.
We work only with families who host by choice. We never book through operators who treat this as a tourist attraction.
Our Sámi contacts speak English as well as their own languages. An interpreter is not needed.
We always ask families about photography preferences in advance and brief clients accordingly. Some aspects of the visit are private.
