Norway’s highest mountains — glacier ridges, deep valleys and the two peaks above 2,400 metres.
Jotunheimen holds the highest ground in Northern Europe: Galdhøpiggen at 2,469 metres and Glittertind just below it, with more than two hundred peaks above two thousand. The Hurrungane range in the west is the sharpest of it — Store Skagastølstind is a climb, not a walk.
Utladalen runs into the range from Øvre Årdal, a deep valley with Vettisfossen, one of the highest unregulated waterfalls in Norway, at its head. The Besseggen ridge above Gjende is the classic day walk, and it earns its reputation.
Historic mountain lodges and restored valley farms — simple, well run, and positioned for the routes.
Guided ascents of Galdhøpiggen, the Besseggen ridge, glacier walking and climbing in the Hurrungane.
Reindeer, mountain trout and cured meats — lodge cooking with more ambition than the setting suggests.
Four hours from Oslo or three from Bergen by private transfer, over some of the best mountain roads in Norway.
Snow still on the high routes and waterfalls at full force. Lower valley walks open first.
Every summit and glacier route open, with the longest usable days of the year.
Colour in the valleys, first snow on the peaks and the quietest lodges of the season.
June: Late Snowmelt. Snow still on the high routes and waterfalls at full force. Lower valley walks open first. July — August: Full Season. Every summit and glacier route open, with the longest usable days of the year. September: Autumn. Colour in the valleys, first snow on the peaks and the quietest lodges of the season.
We suggest 4 nights minimum. 4 nights: A valley lodge base with a glacier day, the Besseggen ridge and one guided summit. 8 nights: Jotunheimen followed by the western fjords — the two halves of inland and coastal Norway.
