A roped glacier walk with a certified glaciologist guide — safe, small-party and genuinely different from the larger tours that share the same ice.
Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap, sends glacier tongues down into the valleys of south Iceland. Walking on one — roped, in crampons, with a guide who reads the ice — is a different experience from any other kind of mountain walking.
We work with a small group of certified glacier guides who keep their parties genuinely small and take routes that avoid the busiest ice. The briefing is thorough and the pace is right.
Glacier conditions change week by week. We work only with guides who make daily safety assessments — no fixed routes regardless of conditions.
Natural blue ice caves open in the colder months when the ice stabilises. These are a separate experience and cannot be combined with a walking tour.
Standard glacier walking requires reasonable fitness but no climbing experience. We discuss the route with every client beforehand.
