Iceland’s south is unusually efficient: within a few hours of Keflavík a client can stand at Þingvellir where two continental plates pull apart, watch Strokkur erupt, and reach the black-sand coast at Vík.
Further east the Vatnajökull ice cap sends glacier tongues almost to the road, and icebergs calve into the Jökulsárlón lagoon. Reykjavík itself is small but has real substance — a serious music scene and better dining than its size suggests.
