The far north of Finland — Sámi heartland, the great lake of Inari, and the darkest, clearest aurora skies we work with.
Ivalo airport puts clients 250 kilometres above the Arctic Circle in a three-hour flight from Helsinki. Inari is the centre of Sámi cultural life in Finland — home to the Sámi Parliament and the Siida museum — and Lake Inari is large enough to hold more than three thousand islands.
Saariselkä, an hour south, sits at the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park with immediate access to open fell country. The combination works well: cultural depth and genuine wilderness within an easy drive of each other, with far fewer visitors than Rovaniemi.
Riverside wilderness lodges and sky-view cabins well away from settlement light — the strongest aurora positioning in Finland.
Reindeer herding visits with Sámi families, husky expeditions into the national park, ice fishing on Lake Inari.
Small kitchens working with local fish, reindeer and forest produce — including some of the best lakeside dining in the north.
Direct Helsinki flights to Ivalo, then private transfer. Onward connections to Norwegian Finnmark are straightforward by road.
The aurora season opens while the ground is still clear — dark nights, autumn colour and no snow logistics yet.
Snow arrives and the polar night sets in. Coldest, quietest and darkest — the strongest conditions for aurora work.
Long usable days with deep snow. The best window for multi-day husky and snowmobile expeditions.
